Animal Clay Building
In the Animal Art class, imaginations run wild with the creation of various animals from pets, to the rainforest to imaginary animals. Students work in clay, oil pastels, watercolors, sculpture and more!
Cartooning & Animation
Did you ever want to draw your own comic strip? Or use caricatures in your art? This class explores exaggerating features in order to create your own illustrations and comic strips. Cartooning is the art of animating objects, such as people, animals, places or imaginary figures to tell a story, usually for humor. Join this class and learn how to make others laugh through your art!
Clay Building
This class focuses on students creating three-dimensional clay art-forms. Students will build their own unique clay sculptures including farm, zoo and imaginary animals as well as create human figurines and spaceships. All clay is air-dry so projects can be taken home the same day. There is no limit to your creativity in this class!
Chalk & Oil Pastels
Chalk and Oil Pastels are two wonderful art media. Take this class and learn how to use both of these art tools. Both media work with vibrant color and how to blend lines to create beautiful compositions. You will be amazed at the quality of artwork that comes home from this class!
Color Mania
In this class students will explore an explosion of color! From tempera painting to oil pastels to watercolors, students will learn how to mix colors to create vibrant works of art. Students will explore the color wheel by learning how to mix primary into secondary colors, how to create shades and tints using black and white and so much more!
Drawing
There are many wonderful art media to learn that the skill of drawing enhances. Take this class and improve your art skills across the board. Students learn the basic art principals of line, shape, texture, value as well as learn details on how to draw using perspective, correct proportions and create compositions. Students create various artworks including portraits, landscapes and abstract artworks.
Jewelry Making
This class offers a fun exploration in jewelry making; from making your own beads out of salt dough, baking and painting them, to stringing necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Some classes even opt for a jewelry fashion show at the end to show-off their artworks. There is no limit to your creativity in this class!
Mixed Media & Collage
Roll up your sleeves and get your hands working in this class by learning to combine various media. Students use scissors and gluing techniques to layer different art forms together to create a single product. Working from the basic technique of collage, cutting and pasting other people’s images onto an original image, to then adding oil pastels, colored pencils, markers, paint, and objects from nature to create a “Mixed Media” composition. Students will view images of more renown Mixed Media pieces in this class to gain inspiration and appreciation for this complex and fun media.
Mosaics
Mosaics is the art of using lots of small pieces to create one large artwork. In this class students create projects from Egyptian paintings made of seeds to garden pots designed with rock patterns.
Painting
Do you enjoy color? If so, join our painting class and express yourself in color. Students will learn techniques of both watercolor and tempera paints in this class to create beautiful artworks. Artworks may include portraits, landscapes, and still lifes works as well as explore various methods of art from impressionism, realism, abstract and more.
Paper Mache
Paper Maché is an art form of layering wet, pasty paper on top of an armature to create a sculpture. After the three-dimensional sculptures are created, they can then be painted in each child’s unique style. Projects will include: animals, sports cars, human figurines and space objects.
Printmaking
The amazing world of printmaking begins with one very special piece of artwork carved into a surface (whether it is Styrofoam, linoleum block, masonite board or any other thick surface). After you have created your art, then the fun begins with paint and paper to create your own “print” of that artwork.
Sandpaper Art
In this class, students will explore the amazing world of color! Students will learn the techniques of oil pastels as well as the technique of “Sandpaper Art” using colored pencils.
Scratch Board
Have you ever colored an entire piece of paper with color, then covered the whole thing with black and craved out an image with your fingernail, a penny or another sharp object? If so, then you’re a natural at the art media of Scratch Board. This art form works with positive and negative space to create visually appealing works that are carved out of Styrofoam and rubber blocks. This class is for the artist who likes to explore new media and enjoys working with tools.
Watercolor & Resist Painting
Watercolor Resist is the technique of first drawing a picture with an oil based tool (either crayon or oil pastel) and then layering watercolor overtop of the artwork. The watercolor will resist attaching to the paper where the oil has been drawn thus creating a “Resist Painting.” This is a starting ground for “mixed media” artworks and creates beautiful contrast on the paper. You will not be disappointed with the products created in this class! Projects will include still lives, landscapes, animals, fruit and more.
Art & Music Around The World
In this class, students create folk art projects from various countries around the globe while listening to music from that country. Example projects include Venetian Carnival Masks, Japanese Kites, African Masks and Australian Didgeridoos.
Art with the Masters
The Art with the Masters class introduces new master artists each week, such as Diego Rivera, Andy Warhol and Georgia O’Keeffe. During the class an artist is presented along with their style of art. Then the students are guided to emulate the Master with that Master’s prominent medium and style. As a result, someone observing the final product might say, “Hey, that looks like ‘Pop Art’ that Andy Warhol could have created!”
Garden Art
In this class, students will explore the wonderful world of the garden thru art. Painted pots, garden sculptures and painted stepping stones are just a few examples of the art you will create.
The Goofy Illustrator (Art & Literature)
In this class, students explore the world of illustrated children’s books by creating artworks in the style of that illustrator. An example would be creating an art collage in the style of Eric Carle’s, “The Hungry Caterpillar.”
Junk Art
In this class, students will be creating original, environmentally inspired, artworks with either recycled or re-used items. From Painted Faces on Coke Cans, to recycled animal sculptures, to Kandinsky-inspired egg cartons, artworks created in this class will be unique and help demonstrate how to "think outside the box" when recycling. Join us in exploring new ways to that what others see only as "Junk" and create "Art."
